Hawaii or Greece for Honeymoon???
 

Hi Everyone - I am getting married at the end of June and am trying to figure out where to go on my honeymoon. So far, Greece & Hawaii are top contenders. For those of you that have been to both, do you have a preference? Or would you recommend another place outside of Greece & Hawaii?? Thailand & Africa are other places that we have spoken about, but not sure if we will do them for a honeymoon. My fiance and I are both 30, we've been to various spots around Europe, the US & South America. We are looking for a beautiful place where we can relax, yet still have interesting things to do, great food, cultural, etc. Any ideas?? Thanks!!

We've been to both, and my wife (of over 22 years) and I consider Hawaii by far the most romantic place we've been to. If you go to Greece, an island vacation would certainly be great; but Athens was, for us (sad to say), not terribly romantic. Historic and fascinating, yes; romantic, no.

Perhaps I'm jaded because I've lived in Hawaii, but I found Greece far more interesting, and parts were even more beautiful than Hawaii. Considering all the traveling you've already done, I think you'd be bored in Hawaii.

I forgot to add that, IMHO, the best place to relax in most spectacular setting is Bora Bora. Still my vote goes to Greece

Big question: do you speak any languages?

I lived in Greece for four years, and all of the islands are drop-dead lovely, but Greek is an unusual language, and if you don't know any Greek, or speak no romance languages (no pun intended) you will want to plan your stops in places that cater to tourists.

That said, I have spent a great deal of time in both locations and they would both make great destinations. ...although there is nothing more beautiful than blue of the ocean and the whitewashed houses on the Greek islands :-).
