Hawaii- Oahu
I need some help......... I'm going back to Hawaii- Oahu Island in Aug and I am looking for new ideas to do and see while I'm there. This will be my second time back and hoping to check out new things that I may have missed on my first visit. I've been to polynesian cultural center, hike up Diamond Head, went to North Shore- Dole plant and went to a beach spot but can't recall the name plus hanauma bay (love it will go back). Of course I went to pearl harbor
Any idea or suggestion would be great! |
Kayaking out of Kailua (we went on a 4-hour trip with Kailua Sailboards, but they do other trips as well). It was a lot of fun (and exercise!)

I echo sf's suggestion of Kailua - we went on her suggestion in 09 and loved it. We were back in June and did not kayak again but went to the beach.
Go to Boots and Kimos for the best breakfast ever! Be prepared for a wait - but worth it. My husband and daughter went out on a catamaran over by Ko Olina and LOVED it - it was wonderful - I will ask him the name of the company. For hikes:
Maunawili Falls on the windward side of the island, behind Kailua/Lanikai is afantastic, brief hike (about a mile and a half) through the dense jungle to a very Hawaiian falls with pool. After Dark at the Honolulu Academy of Art? Last Friday of every month at the Art Academy they hold an event with pupus and music, and of course, art: http://www.artafterdar.../ Occasionally on some Saturday and Sunday afternoons and evenings "Sunset on the Beach" happens near the Kapahulu Pier in Waikiki. Food booths serve local island treats for under $10, musicians croon Hawaiian melodies, and then a 30-foot screen plays free Hollywood films, with Diamond Head looming in the background. Even better would be to take one of the many hiking trails and see it up close and personal. Breath taking views, exotic plants and trees, fresh air, and great exercise all within a 5 to 10 minute drive from your Waikiki hotel (traffic permitting). Shangri La which is the home of heiress Doris Duke (Duke university, etc.)- tours are offered via Honolulu Academy of Arts. Wonderful tour. The house is amazing with all the imported arts, design, grounds, etc. well worth the tour. I have done it 2x and loved it both times. You can only get there thru the Acanemy of Arts as they are part of the trust for the home...they have vans tht leave from the Acandyof Arts. Limited number of people everyn day. I have purchased tix on line through them.....try it - you will like it....

How about a sail and snorkel trip on Waikiki?
There are also evening cruises you can do on the nights the Hilton does their fireworks, both are awesome. If you want a thrill, there is the Shark Dives too.
