Hawaii in August

Hi
We are planning to visit Hawaii in August and had heard that it is school holidays which makes it very busy. Is this correct and if so should we avoid any specific places or dates?

By mid to late August schools in Hawaii have started up again. Also the same for much of the rest of the U.S.

Summer months have the most tourists in Hawaii. But there is nothing that you have to avoid because of it. Beaches are more crowded. Hotels are fuller, prices for airfare & hotels are up.

The later in August you can plan your trip, the better it will be.

Lots of info

We were there the beginning of August last year. It did not seem crowded to us.

Same here, we went to Kauai the first week in August last year, and it didnt seem crowded at all. I dont know if it is different on the other islands.

Ditto what the two previous posters said about August. We've been to Kaua'i for the past three July/Augusts and crowds of toursits were never a problem. Crowds of bugs and herds of wild, marauding chickens on the other hand WERE a problem.

Avondale, I wouldn't worry about crowds in August ... but do make sure that you have air conditioning in your accommodations that time of year! It can be very hot and humid in certain areas if those tradewinds decide to slow down for a few days! The couple of weeks around Christmas/New Year's is the only time I would absolutely avoid in Hawaii ...

We've been in July, the peak of the summer travel season, and no problem with crowds, except at some of the most popular resturants.

We've also been during the Christmas holidays and Thanksgiving holidays, now that's crowded.
