HAWAII- (help?)
Me and Hubby REALLY would like to go to Hawaii next year maybe in October for our anniversary. I need some helpful hints on getting a GOOD bargain to Maui. I hear thats the prettiest island (expensive). What's the lowest price has anyone heard/paid to get there??? I would like to pay maybe $800.00 or so for air/hotel from Detroit to Maui. (I'm sure they'll be a connecting flight) Is that a resonable price??? How's Waikiki?? I hear that's more city like??? I prefer Maui..
Also has anyone went through Pleaant Hawaiian Holidays before??
Please advise...
Thanks!!!
I've traveled using Pleasant Hawaiian Holidays. If you are looking for a good price, they are tough to beat, although I am in L.A. so the airfare from Detroit may make a big difference in price (Pleasant charters planes out of LA and SF).
You get what you pay for in their hotels. Some are a little run down. If you pay more, you get a better hotel. Check a map before you book, so you know what you are getting.
Skip their "welcome breakfast". It's a waste of time. They are just trying to sell you tour packages.
If you are on a budget, Pleasant is a good way to go.

we just went to hawaii and used a honolulu based travel agency called Tanega Travel. They were great, we got good deals at both of the places we stayed at. we did all the arrangements via fax and email. It was nice that they were local, b/c we had a flight cancellation when we were in the honolulu airport and we were able to call them and they notified our pick-up service at the other end. email me if you want their # or email address

Hi Jan:

I am an Independent Travel Agent with UniGlobe Alliance Travel. I would be more than happy to help plan your trip to Hawaii. I basically use Pleasant Holidays as a supplier, but I can also check the varios airline vacation sections to see what they offer. Since I am a home-based agent, I have much time to spend making sure you are getting the best priced package instaed of just findin one or tow and saying here you go. Let me know if I can be of help. My email address is [email protected].

Have a great vacation!!!

Mark Buterbaugh
Independent Travel Consultant
UniGlobe Alliance Travel

Jan, we've used Pleasant Holiday packages before with no problem. Another suggestion, call the Vacation Desk (maybe different title) for the airline that you're going to use. We've done this with Delta and NW for other trips, and gotten either good info to use, or a good deal.
For what it's worth, we like Oahu because of more choices
for everything, better prices, and if you get out of Waikiki and Honolulu into the mountains and to the other side of the island, it's much different.

Have your agent check out "Classic Vacations" for you, we used them a few years ago for a trip to the Big Island and it was very well done (they will do combination packages to split islands for a week - a good idea for a first visit) - Pleasant Hawaiian is also a very good operator for inexpensive(and not so inexpensive - your choice) packages but our experiences with ATA (their charter airline) was not the best - very cramped seating "a la cattle car"- it was worth it to us to pay a little extra for a commerical carrier (we love Hawaiian Air). Check out "www.gohawaii.com" for all sorts of information on the islands, too.
