Hawaii Fourth of July Fireworks

Myself and about 30 guests (for my upcoming wedding) will be on Oahu for the 4th of July this summer. Most of us are staying at Ko'Olina and in houses in Ewa Beach.

Does anyone have any suggestions as where we should be to see fireworks? Is there a better display or better location to watch them from? Thanks in advance!

Congratulations! Question: You're hoping to see fireworks from Ko Olina? Just checking.

On July 3, you can catch fireworks over Honolulu Harbor at Aloha Tower Marketplace. Party starts about 5; fireworks go off at 9. Admission is free, but you might want to make reservations at one of the harborfront restaurants to get a nice view.

On July 4 itself, there are several shows. I believe there are fireworks at Schofield Barracks, which may be the closest to where you are staying. Otherwise, the big show is at Ala Moana. You can also catch fireworks at Kailua Beach.

If you plan to see the fireworks at Ala Moana beach park and you're driving, make sure you get there EARLY.

Seriously, lines of cars form in the wee hours of the morning to snag a parking spot. People get there really early and spend the entire day at the beach.

With 30 people though, I would consider hiring some sort of shuttle service to take you there and bring you back.

Melissa what's your opinion on Bayfest in Kaneohe is that more for the 20 and 30 year old crowd? I tried to get their website for this year but only found '06 also did find the national acts scheduled there but no local performers.

Quite honestly, I've never been to the Bayfest. I think you're right that it probably caters to a younger crowd and naturally, to the military crowd. I'm sure there are families and such at the event, though.

Aloha,
My husband and I are in our 40's and love the bands at Bayfest there is usually a main act and several local groups playing into the evening the fireworks are great too. The crowd tends to be younger and of course more military (it is on a military base). Being as I live in Kailua it is great because it's at my back door as well as the 4th of July fireworks display off of flat Island at Kailua Beach. I do enjoy it when we can take our the boat (Ala Wai Boat Harbor) and watch the fireworks from our boat in waikiki but I do not dare brave the land crowds for the Ala Moana dispaly of fireworks.
Aloha,
Jeanne

Jeanne-

I've always envied those people that can view the Ala Moana fireworks from out on the ocean on their boats - though I imagine that just trying to find somewhere to park your car is a hassle - not to mention the total gridlock trying to get out of the area afterwards.

Would appreciate some advice from those on this thread in the know. Planning a trip to Oahu and Maui NEXT summer over July 4th. On Oahu, we will stay at Hale Koa, and on Maui, at the Whaler on Kaanapali. Which island would you recommend to be on for the 4th? Would love to sit on the beach at Hale Koa and see fireworks over Waikiki; but is it going to be so crazy crowded that you just don't want to be part of it? Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

Aloha Chepar,
We usually head down to the boat very early (way before lunch) and load the boat up with supplies and when we dock after the fireworks we just spend the night on the boat that way we dont have to fight the traffic or worry about driving back over the hill there a 3 bedrooms and two baths on board so there is plenty of room for everyone to just crash out. We just go straight to work from the boat the next morning! Hope to do it this year as it's been awhile since we have done it on the 4th.
Mahalo,
Jeanne

Just my 2cts about Maui: Several years ago we happened upon the fireworks at Whaler's Village, but it was VERY crowded, standing room only.
