Hawaii for the Handicapped

I thought I saw a thread about this in the past but now that I need it I can't find it. Can anyone direct me to information about handicap parking permits for Hawaii? My mother is in a wheelchair and we have a handicap parking permit for her at home but not sure if it will do us any good in Hawaii. We are going to Waikiki, then the Big Island, and finally Maui.

I remember reading that the parking permit you have is good anywhere in the US.

Did you do a search for the other thread?

Yes, I did a search but nothing came up. Our permit is actually for Canada so not sure if it's portable to the U.S. I thought what I read before said something about applying for a temporary permit.

antlori: I copied and pasted the info below from the hawaii/gov website:

Will My Hawaii DP Permit Be Recognized On The Mainland?
Yes. All states recognize State of Hawaii DP permits. In addition, local law enforcement will honor valid DP permits from other states or countries.

One down, how many more to go!??

This isn't about parking permits, but if your mother would like to go ON the beach, the Oahu Parks and Recreation department has all terrain wheelchairs and special beach mats. See:
