Hawaii for 21 days, where to go?
 

My girlfriend and I (mid 50's, but very active) are going to Hawaii for 21 days in July-August. We were thinking 1 week on Maui, 4 days each on Oahu and the Big Island, and 6 days on Kauai. Any comments? Also, and recommendations on lodging, such as B&B's, condos, hotels, etc. We don't need anything too fancy. What parts of each island should we stay on in the summer?

<BR>When you're on Oahu, make sure you see the rest of the island, and not just Waikiki and Honolulu.

My personal favorites: <BR> <BR>Maui -- Hana Drive (IF you have a daring streak in driving, the road can be intimidating); Haleakala Nat Park (on a clear day) <BR> <BR>Oahu -- Polynesian Culture Center (one of the few places where the Latter Day Saints don't put 90% of their energy into blatant prosletyzing); Diamond Head Overlook (not an easy climb, but a nice view); Tantalus Drive; Pearl Harbor (I didn't expect to be moved, but I was); Waiamea Bay; Kodak Hula Show; snorkeling in Hanamua Bay <BR> <BR>Big Island -- Volcano Nat Park; north shore drive up the Kona Coast <BR> <BR>Kauii -- boat tour on the Na Pali Coast; Waiamea Canyon (IF there is no fog); hiking on the Na Pali Coast.

Kauai was my favorite. Na Pali coast is abosultely magical. Has to be one of the prettiest place on earth. Waiamea Canyon is awesome, even in fog. <BR>Dine at A Pacific Cafe for dinner <BR>a least one night. Read Michener's "Hawaii" before you go. It sets the scene before you go and gives a good, <BR>readable history lesson. Have fun.

Spend more time on Maui. Oahu (Honolulu) is too crowded, so you only need three days there to see the main sights (Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head, Waikiki beach, Polynesian Cultural Center). Kauai and the Big Island don't have as much to see and do.
