Well I've spent many hours reading posts and trying to decide how to plan my travel. With the help of all your questions and answers I am looking forward to a 16 day trip June 2nd. Oahu, Big Island and Kauai.
Where's the best sushi, best Mai tai's and a good place for an annivarsy dinner around Kona area. Thanks to all.

For an anniversary dinner in Kona try Jameson's By The Sea (just south of Kailua), or for less money, the Kona Inn or Huggo's.

Don't limit yourself to mere Mai Tai's.

When in Kauai, have a Lava Flow (or two) at Hula Girl in the Coconut Marketplace in Kapaa. ((D))((D)) =D>

<b>Supposedly&lt;/b/&gt;, the Waikiki Beach Marriott has the best mai tais. One of the bartenders was explaining the science of &quot;why&quot;--fresher ingredients, better blend, etc--but my palate isn't sophisticated enough on mixed drinks to tell?

DB is right, don't limit yourself to mai tais. my fave Waikiki drink is actually the Moana Sands, which you can have at the Sheraton Moana Surfrider...best enjoyed at sunset.</b>

June must be Texas month in Hawaii!

My wife &amp; I leave 28 days from today for our &quot;first ever&quot; Hawaii trip. I'm already counting the hours and making packing lists etc. I can't help planning the details as it must be the engineer in me!

I plan on trying ALL the different drinks my system will handle...maybe more!

Too funny! I too am from Texas and plan to leave June 11th for our 25th wedding anniversary to Hawaii! We're taking our two kids (ages 10 &amp; 12) and I'm hoping to have a wonderful time. I too have spent HOURS researching and reading posts. I can't brag enough on all the wonderful people on this message board who have shared so much to help make our trips more enjoyable! I've been so stressed at work and hope my vacation helps get the knots out of my neck!!!

Thanks to everyone for all your help and great tips. I'm waiting for my 2 books I ordered to arrive, and get even more info prior to our departure! Of course, the 2 books were recomendations off this website!

We leave in nine days for a week on Oahu. My step-daughter, daughter, son-in-law, and nine-year-old grandson are going, too. Step-daughter hasn't ever been and keeps calling us and saying, &quot;Are we there yet? Are we there yet?&quot; I woke up and couldn't get back to sleep a few nights ago and did my mental packing list instead of counting sheep.

WE LEAVE TODAY FOR 10 DAYS ON THE BIG ISLAND! WOO HOO! MONTHS AND MONTHS IN THE PLANNING AND IT'S FINALLY HERE. LAVA FLOWS OF THE REAL KIND AND THE ALCOHOL KIND, HERE I COME! :-)

SoCalGal, I hope you have a WONDERFUL time! Be sure to give an update when you get back. Let me know what you think about the VNP, we're planning to visit in June.

June is certainly Texas month in Hawaii my co-workers daughter from Dallas and will also be there. We can show them what southern hospitality is all about.

I guess I must be the &quot;odd&quot; Texan as I am not going for two weeks on my first Hawaii trip until Sept. I will avidly read all your trip reports in the meantime thought :-)

Okay, here's probably a stupid question, but here goes. Is there a separate place on this message board where you're suppose to enter your trip reports?

ALso, if there's someone you want to contact on this web, is there a way to do that? I'm talking on message contact via this site, NOT contacting them direct.

Absolutely don't miss the Lava Flow drinks - they're great! But while in Waikiki - try a Blue Tahiti (different from the Blue Hawaii) at the Waikiki Marriott and a Panini (I hope I spelled that right) at Duke's at sunset - great drinks and views.

mlarson- not a stupid question...

To post a trip report, choose &quot;post a new message&quot; and slick on the state list for the proper state. It will make your report pop up when others search by state, but will also appear with the general US postings as well. No need to post twice.

Title your message with something like &quot;mlarsons hawaii trip report&quot; or Kauai/Oahu 10 day trip report&quot;.

Be as detailed as you like. We like em long! If your report it really long, fodors may not accept it as one message, and you'll need to post it in pieces.

DO NOT post 2 separate new messages, instead write part of your report and post it, then post the next part(s) as a REPLY to the first one. This way your report stays together.

If you will be writing it on your word processor (ah, spell check is wonderful)you can cut and paste it here, but be aware that apostrophes may turn into ? signs here on fodors.

If your computer does this, you are better off to leave out the apostrophes, paste it , then add them in in at the end.

Please use paragraphs. It is soooo much easier to read a long posting with them.

To leave a message to an individual here, just post a message with their name in the title (eg &quot;Lcuy, where are you?&quot;).

And I want you'll to know that Texas Long Grain is the rice of choice for Chinese in Hawaii (not for sushi, though! Fried rice and rice noodles...)
