Just booked Avis with the coupon -- at $31.50 per day all-in for an intermediate ($30 for a compact).

I'd bet anything that those prices will come down between now and 2013.

A couple in my neighborhood go to Hawaii twice every year. They're usually successful in getting a car through Priceline - usually at the last minute. So, keep those res that you can cancel within 24 hours and try priceline a few days before your trip.
