Generally think luaus are too touristy and the food is awful, but if you want one suggestion--try the one at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel--used to be every Tuesday. The food is pretty good and the show is very good--it's held outside on the ocean front and the hotel is a treat to visit. I'm hoping that it's open to non guests--you will need to confirm that it is. Generally, their dining rooms are open to the public, so I would assume it is too. The Big Island is our favorite--if you're a golfer, there are fantastic courses--visit the Parker Ranch and go horseback riding--you'd swear you were in Colorado! Of course, if you've never been there, the volcano is impt to see. Kona is a bit touristy, but OK. Have fun.
