Hawaii at Christmas-airfares and drier areas
Currently airfares to Honolulu are running $1200 from the East Coast. Kayak showed a drop to $900 a couple weeks ago, briefly. Is this typically the price for those of you who have flown at Christmas from the East coast (of the U.S.)?
Do any of the Islands have better weather (less rain) that time of year typically?

Sorry, have not been during the holidays (too expensive!). I don't think it matters what island but there will be areas on each island which are definitely drier. Wailea on Maui, and Kohala Coast on Big Island comes to mind. Also further south or west on Kauai would be drier. On Oahu, I think Ko Olina on the western side is supposed to be drier, but I think Waikiki area is usually ok year-round too. The North shore would probably have some nice waves to watch surfers too.

air fares to Hawaii have gone sky high. In one week a one way (I use miles for one way) went from $273 to $340 so I booked it and then the next time I went in it was over $400.00 I would say $900 is an excellent price from East Coast. DH grabbed flight for $770.00 from SFO to LIH for next March. Don't understand air fares and how they can change each week...

This is a little old-so maybe you won't see this. I'm a 29yr Travel Agent veteran-$900 from East Coast to Hawaii at Christmas is a FANTASTIC price. Grab it!
Best weather will be Kona, then Oahu, Wailea in Maui, and Kauai will be spotty with light rain.
Find a Travel Agent and get your hotels booked now! A TA will get you some nice ammenities and good advise. Have fun!
