Hawaii & Whales in September??
Hi! We're planning our honeymoon to Hawaii for the
first week of September and wondered if we would get to see any whales (if so, which kind?) We are staying on Kauai and visiting the Big Island. And must see sites on Kauai? Thanks!!! Sherri |
You'll probably hear from people much more knowledgeable than I, but I thought I'd post a reply anyway. I believe that you are most likely to see the whales from about November through March. I THINK September is too early. They (the whales) certainly were a highlight of a March trip to Maui, but you'll love Hawaii even if you don't see them.

You might be a tad bit early for whales..The Humpbacks
begin there migration from Alaska in late Nov. and peak in Feb...If they are there, the best place to see them would be off of maui..There are a few around Kona. Have a great time..Hawaii is wonderful!!!!! |
You won't see whales in September but it is one of the nicest times of the year to be there. If you have the chance, stay at the Mauna Lani on the Kohala Coast. It is the best hotel I've ever been in, the only 5 star in Hawaii.
In Kauai, see the following: Zodiac trip on the NaPali Coast, Princeville, Helecopter tour of Waimea Canyon and NaPali. Th eHeli on Kauai is the best of all the islands- BY FAR. Go to Beach House in Poipu for sunset and dinner. |
