Janice-

I have been Maui 7 times - we love it there. Ironically, we are planning our first trip to Disneyworld/Disney Cruise next summer! I think they are 2 different types of vacation. We find Maui very relaxing. Maybe because we've been so many times. There are many things to do or you can relax on the beach. I would stay in the Kaanapali area if I were to go. It is closer to Lahaina (the main town) for dinner/shopping etc. There are some great places to stay. We like to stay in a condo - so we don't have to eat every meal out or to have snack foods around. Anyway, we've had some great times/memories in Maui. I'll have to let you know about disneyworld after we go!! Any advice for me?!!

We've been to both places in the last 4 years (twice each). It's different fun. Hawaii is Nature - whales, dolphins, volcanos, sunsets, hiking, snorkeling. Disney is Rides, shows, fireworks (mostly man-made). My kids, now 12 & 10, loved them both for different reasons. Maui has lots to do to keep you busy for a full 2 weeks but there's time for relaxing. Disney World is very active & we kept a busy schedule to try to get as many rides in a day. Not too relaxing but the kids loved the fast pace since they got to see everything. There are no amusement type roller coaster rides on Maui but the bike ride down Haleakala gives you as many thrills! You must go to Maui!!

We have been to both Disney World and Maui at least a dozen times each. They are our two favorite places in the world. But they are very different. If you're only going to one this year, I'd say Maui is the best. Read the Maui info on the web site mentioned below, to see all the great stuff there is to see and do on Maui.
LOTS more info about Maui restaurants, hotels, activities, sights, etc, at this web site:
http://www.mauihawaii.org
(note it ends in org, not com)
Jon
Janice - Just returned from Maui last week, went to Disney World 3 years ago. Kids are older now and only wanted to play in the waves, snorkle and suntan. More relaxed family time together in Maui. Less people in Maui, the crowds at Disney World nearly drove us nuts. Choose Maui if everyone REALLY likes the beach.
