Have you stayed at this Chicago hotel?
 

Hi<BR><BR>Has anyone stayed at the Millennium Knickerbocker?<BR><BR>Locations seems fine, but I'm more conscious of standard. <BR><BR>Would it be classed as 'luxury' like the website depicts?<BR><BR>I'm looking for somewhere that offers fab accommodation, but does not have to be top notch luxury. We are travelling over from the UK. To indicate to you our previous USA standards, we stayed at the Westin Fairfax in Washington DC and it was wonderful.<BR><BR>Regards<BR>SallyB

Hi Sally, I stayed at the Knickerbocker about 2 years ago, maybe 3. It was an old hotel that needed updating. I rather stay across the street at the Drake. Hope this helps!<BR> Kris

I think the Drake is showing its age too. For the money I'd go elswhere.

I stayed at the Monaco a couple of years ago and thought it was great.

Sally,<BR><BR>It looks ok, but I'm willing to bet you can do better if you look around. There are several websites that offer big discounts on Chicago hotel rooms. One is www.hotrooms.com. I usually have my friends stay at Le Meridien, which they've loved, booked through hotrooms.<BR>They've paid between $140-$200. Of course if you use these services you'll probably get the smaller rooms during peak periods. Still, there are great deals to be had.<BR><BR>Don't forget, if you'll be renting a car parking in Chicago can be very expensive. The regular rooms at Le Meridien are VERY small. In the summer the AC set on low creates a breeze right on the bed. The better rooms are very nice indeed. [We got an upgrade once]<BR><BR>If you are willing to stay in the loop try Hotel Burnham -- the rooms are small, but without the AC problem mentioned above. What's so nice about the Burnham is the historic interest and beauty of the building.<BR><BR>I'm still a fan of Swiss&ocirc;tel on Wacker Drive. Rooms are big and comfortable and sometimes you can get a weekend package with health club access. The health club is on the top floor. It includes a swimming pool -- and you can sweat with a panoramic view of the lake and the city.

Rooms at Burnham are really small and overly dramatic (dark blues and maroons). I'd be willing to bet that most, though not all, would prefer to stay a little farther north. Swisshotel is the kind of place that appeals to everyone. I really like Le Meridien too.<BR>

I'm afraid we're all off the topic of the Knickerbocker.<BR><BR>Yes the Swissotel is a nice hotel. Not as shiny new as the recently built places, but nice location and great city views.<BR><BR>I mentioned hotrooms.com before. Another site that is easier to use is www.quikbook.com. They often have swissotel rooms for $120-$150.<BR><BR>

Based on your description, try the new Hotel Sofitel (not the one near O'Hare). Quikbook.com is also good for discounts. Staying near north Michigan Ave. is the best area for tourists.
