Have you ever stayed in a La Quinta Inn?
Do you recommend them? Are they nice of more like a Best Western?
|
Yes, I have. Usually it depends on the neighborhood, but they all have a standard format/service level. If you are looking for a no frills place just to lay your head at night, they are fine. My experience has been that they are clean and they are definitely above a Motel 6.

I have stayed in a few that were very nice - mostly in the midwest. What city/state are you considering?
|
The ones I've stayed in were clean, comfortable had a swimming pool, workout room etc. The last one I stayed at in Santa Ana had a real bozo for a manager but the rest of the staff was great. But that's another story.

We stayed at one in Colorado and it was in need of renovating but overall it was o.k. but unless there was nothing else available I wouldn't stay at one again. It just felt like a very cheaply built motel (thin walls, cheap furniture)
|
The one I stayed in was better than no frills; pool, spa, very nice buffet breakfast, morning paper, high speed internet. I've stayed in Best Westerns that weren't as nice.

Ditto what Catbert said.

I have stayed at the La Quinta Inn and Suites in Plano TX.Very nice clean good location right next door to IHOP and down the street from Red,Hot,and Blue.A cut above BW as far as I'm concerned

The very first ones were built in the 1980's and were as no name described. I didn't like them then.
The new ones, La Quinta Inns AND SUITES, are very, very nice and are my favorite moderate places to stay (others are Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express). The LAI&S are built on the same model - nice layout, nice entry, nice rooms, workout rooms and pools and a GREAT free breakfast. I do stay in some of the older model LQ's and would rate them along the ranks of Comfort Inns and Best Westerns. I do like their frequent stay program too. |
Best Western is the least consistent in quality of all the motel "chains". Absolutely no idea what I'll get at one. Therefore, it's really hard to compare any other hotel to "a Best Western".

Hi Heavens..
The La Quinta Inn & Suites are great deal and the newer ones are nice and modern and have free internet & Breakfast and they allow pets so when we go on a road trip we take our Pom, Spudgy and it is perfect and the price is right! I am not a fan of BW..they have gone downhill IMO.. Go on-line and you can check the ones out that you want to stay that are newer at; lq.com Best to you.. |
LOL, Have I ?!
We only stayed in La Quintas on our drive to our new home in Portland Oregon, from Florida. A couple were tired and drab but most of them were new and very nice. I have never been to a Best Western but I can say that if you get a new La Quinta, it should be satisfactory :) |
I will stay in NEW La Quinta Inns and Suites properties if available but I am a little leery of the older hotels.
Beware of REALLY old hotels being flagged with the La Quinta Inns and Suites name. I reserved what was presented to be a NEW La Quinta Inn & Suites at Portland Northwest on 4319 NW Yeon and it was a 40 year old hotel that they had slapped the sign on. It was TOTALLY disgusting, in a horrible area. We looked at the room and left immediately. LQ moved us to the airport hotel which was very, very nice. Call and ask WHEN the property was built. Any LQ built in the last 8 years will be great. |
The one I am looking at is in Carlsbad CA. Thanks all for the help...

Did you find the Trip Advisor reviews for that hotel?
Andrew |
I did and they are good. It is not a suites, but I went ahead and booked anyway. We are there for a short time, to sleep basically, and I got it for $105 with AAA. And we get a breakfast. Not my first choice but it will do for that night. Thanks all. I'll let you know how it is if you like.

heavens:
stayed @ one in 1987 for a few days in August. my brother was in basic training at Ft. Benning, GA. maybe you'll get lucky and get one that has thick curtains that shuts out all light if you want to get some daytime rest like we did long ago. La Quintas is like every place else. Go to hoteladvisor.com and if near a major city should have some reviews on them in general. Even really good 3-4 stars hotels get bad reviews. |
