I was in the coffee shop of the Grand Hotel in Taipei, Taiwan, when I spotted Governor Robb of Virginia (he who married Lyndon Johnson's daughter) having breakfast.

I walked over to introduce myself to him and his breakfast companion. Both Southern gentlemen immediately stood at my approach and responded to my introduction with their introductions.
The other fellow was Governer Bill Clinton from Arkansas.

OSB, I have always remembered that demonstration of Southern manners. To think that these two Governors would rise at the arrival of a complete stranger.

I later got to know Bill Clinton in another capacity, but the introduction remains one of my warmest memories.

While working at a hotel in Waikiki, I got into a service elevator with Tom Selleck. This was when he was filming Magnum. I was so young I didn't know what to say. i think I mumbled a weak "hi"
I've also seen Joan Chen and Dyan Cannon in NYC. And Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi sneaking in the stage entrance of Grease to see Brooke Shields when they were married.

I was in my teens and in an elevator in a DC hotel with Pearl Bailey - she was just as polite and kind as you would hope performers and posters on this site would/should be...

I know, Galle38 & I felt for you when you were bashed but then when I said so I got slammed too. The point is that your original post is interesting & it has generated a pretty good response & as for the rest...just let it go. I am sorry that I cannot answer your question b/c I have never run into a famous person in Hawaii. Maybe next time!

Vegas: Was at the Bellagio while Ocean's 11 was filming--saw the whole cast (Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, etc.) but got to meet Matt Damon and Andy Garcia. We ate dinner 2 tables away from all the "boys" from the movie and my mom was nearly drooling by looking at George Clooney!
Met Will Smith in London, Jimmy Buffett in East Hampton, Peter Noone from Herman's Hermits (!!) in Epcot; I guess I've seen a lot from just walking around in Manhattan (Mets, Yankees, Uma Thurman, various NY people...)

I flew on a plane to Maui with George and Barbara Bush! Not on AF1, but on a United flight. The gal sitting next to me mentioned about the president in first class. I thought it was the president of United Airlines. When it was time to deplane, there they were, getting off the plane along with everyone else in coach. No secret service that I could tell (he wasn't in office anymore) but they didn't show up in the lobby so I assume there was a limo waiting for them on the tarmac and they made a quick exit.

On our honeymoon in Lanai, 8 years ago, we couldn't help but over hearing a loud voice from the other side of a pillar in the restaurant at the Manele Bay resort. There was Terry Bradshaw and a couple of other guys I didn't recognise. He really does have a "Chrome Dome".

On another note, I ran into Darryl Dawkins of "Chocalate Thunder" basketball fame in the Denver airport.

Locally, I ran into Magic Johnson on Maui, but my peak moment was attending a seminar with Julius "Dr. J" Erving, where I had him sign a jersey and presented him with a souvenier from Hawaii. My sister had previously taken me to a basketball game in Honolulu where he had played and I fell out of my seat when he soared from the sideline and dunked a shot. I could not believe that a human being could accomplish what I had seen with my own eyes!

offlady,

You didn't see the SS agents but they were there. An ex-president has one or two (I don't remember which) agents assingned to him for life.

jamaltay, it is possible. However, we met a photographer from Texas that lives in their town and has taken their portraits. (My husband is also a photographer). He told us that the senior Bushes declined having SS because they wanted to revert back to living a normal life. He said that Barbara didn't like having SS forced to follow her to the local grocery mart, and things like that.

Or maybe it's like that Beverly Hills Ninja where Chris Farley goes to America and his sensei secretly sends along another ninja to protect him. Gosh, I loved that movie!

Yes, I think so too. What surprised me is that when it was time to deplane, they got off with everyone else. No one blocked the coach section so the first class passengers including the presidential couple just got off along with everyone else. Since I was sitting in the bulkhead seat in coach, I got within inches of them as I was getting of the plane. They didn't draw any attention to themselves, so most passengers didn't even realize they were even there.

Just last week we were watching the US Open boarding championships at Stratton, hoping to get a glimpse of some of the big names. We were too far to really see anyone, but after we watched we went to Stratton Village for lunch, and who comes in, wearing white pants, white high tops and fur coat, looking every bit the rock star but Shaun White! He was very nice and gave my son an autograph. Very down to earth, he was with his brother and very pretty sister.

I am a nurse anesthetist, and I gave anesthesia several years ago to Joe Frazier, the boxer. When he woke up, I asked him how his anesthesia was. He looked at me, and, while pointing his finger at me, said in his gruff voice - "You put me down!" It was a truly fun moment, and I'll never forget his game sense of humor and friendliness - he even gave autographed photos to everyone in the OR!

I also saw Bill Murray in the Calgary Airport once, said hi to him, but he kept moving.

Yes, I saw Hugh Grant walking down Brompton Road in London. I had just seen Four Weddings and a Funeral and he was just getting famous in the US. Actually, he looked very cute!
