Have you been to the annual Moose Dropping Festival in Talkeetna?

It appears our visit to Talkeetna, Alaska will coincide with the annual Moose Dropping Festival, apparently named for the event in which numbered moose turds are dropped (thank goodness moose are not dropped) from a helicopter onto a target area, and people who made bets or bought tickets or something corresponding to those numbers can win prizes...something like that.

If anyone here has attended this festival in the past, I would like to hear about your experience. I understand there is a parade, activities, etc.

I wonder who volunteers for the job of putting the numbers on...

Sounds like there should be some sort of contest first (an election would do) with the losers being made to stand in the target area.

kiwi - you are closer to the truth than you might realize. Talkeetna is only a short drive from Wasilla, home of the Palins.

this brings so many memories back. Our friends in the Vienne in France took us one night to a road where everyone was drinking and feasting BUT very quietly. It wa the stange sport that they knew when the moose would be mating and the sounds were incredible..but I would not go back and intrude again.

I know what you mean, cigalechanta. We had neighbours like that until just recently. The mating sounds were truly incredible.

(Sorry, bakerstreet. This doesn't help much with your enquiry. Rob.)

Doesn't the moose get cold with his tuchas hanging out the side of the helicopter?
