Havasupai and crime

Anyone else read the latest Backpacker magazine with the article about crime (murder, assault, meth, vandalism, etc.) in Havasu Canyon? It's a pretty popular destination but I've heard nothing about crime (just poverty and less than stellar living conditions) until I read the article. If you're planning a trip there this summer you may want to pick up the June issue and prepare yourself.

I read that article just this week. There were some surprises but many of the more isolated reservations suffer similar problems. The big difference for Havasu Canyon is the tourists treking through the area. As interesting as the falls are, I will not be taking a trip to that area.
