After my Grandmother passed away I always used to smell the scent of sweet cinnamon or sugar cookies in my den. I don't know if it was her or another spirit but it went away after about 4 months. Ghost or not? I don't know.

MelissaHI Sep 30th, 2003 08:58 PM

I'm a ghost magnet myself, and also am happier to be without such encounters. My aunt's knees used to "crack" with a very unique sound, and my cousin says that she now hears it in her house if she's alone late at night. She especially hears it when she is with her babies--my cousin gave birth well after my aunt died and she was always desperate to be a grandmother.

I've certainly heard of that phenomenon, cd. In fact the scent of rose perfume at the St. James Hotel in Cimarron, NM is supposedly a sure sign the spirit of the wife of the hotel's original owner is nearby.

Speaking of haunted hotels...

MSN had this list of haunted hotels on its website, today:

I've stayed at the Hollywood Roosevelt before, yep you're right it's haunted.

hauntedheadnc Oct 4th, 2003 02:57 PM

What did you see at the Hollywood Roosevelt, viamar? According to a show that mentioned its ghosts, there's a mirror in the lobby where Marilyn Monroe occasionally makes appearances, and Montgomery Cliff plays a trumpet on the 9th floor.

Didja see someone famous -- or was it an anonymous ghost?

Pumpy Oct 4th, 2003 05:02 PM

I want to smoke what you've got! Ghost, gobblins, it all sends chills down my spine (cough cough).

The Holly Hotel, in Michigan is no longer a hotel. Just a restaurant. A VERY good restaurant though.

hauntedheadnc Oct 14th, 2003 10:42 PM

Thanks for the update, Cassidy.

Al_LaCarte Oct 15th, 2003 12:11 PM

What about the Syrus Aeckney place in Maine?

viamar Oct 15th, 2003 01:43 PM

I wasn't lucky enough to see any spirits, but one of the employees there told us some pretty hair raising stories. It could all just be my imagination but you just get "feeling" when you are staying there, especially when walking down the corridors at night. Besides the whole haunted thing it's a great hotel with lots of history.

kat1 Oct 16th, 2003 09:05 AM

Al LaCarte

Gee, is that you, Arnie? This is Halloween season, not April Fools. We missed you.

Al_LaCarte Oct 16th, 2003 09:35 AM

Kat1,

Glad you caught the reference! No, I'm not Arnie but I loved the story and wondered if there was still anyone here from a year ago who remembered it.

Arnie, are you out there?

littledarlin3 Oct 16th, 2003 09:59 AM

Re: the Stone Lion Inn in Guthrie, OK. They host murder mystery weekends. We didn't see any ghosts while we were there, but the Inn Keeper was pretty scary! I've never seen anyone (man or woman) do as many tequilla shots as she did and still be standing!;)

Coincidentally enough, I spent last summer visiting and reviewing several haunted hotels, several of which haven't been mentioned here. Here's my list, with URLs, if interested.

Arizona -- Bisbee -- Bisbee Grand Hotel

Arizona -- Jerome -- Jerome Grand Hotel
http://www.epinions.com/content_102009048708

California -- Columbia -- Columbia City Hotel
http://www.epinions.com/content_115366268548

California -- San Francisco -- San Remo Hotel
http://www.epinions.com/content_115577360004

California -- San Jose -- Wyndham San Jose
http://www.epinions.com/content_108990533252

Ontario -- Toronto -- Fairmont Royal York
http://www.epinions.com/content_112884616836

I also stayed a couple you did mention:

Queen Anne Hotel http://www.epinions.com/content_107377888900

The Sir Francis Drake is a review in progress at the moment. These all include the stories of the hauntings as well.

Tombstone, Arizona, is worth checking out too. That town had enough ghost stories for the History Channel to do a whole hour on it alone. However, that's true of a lot of these old west mining towns.
