Have yet to go but still yearn for Hawaii like nowhere else.

It would be interesting to hear experiences from those who, after years of dreaming and yearning, finally visited or even settled there.

My husband and I have also fallen in love with Hawaii. We were first there in '96 for our honeymoon. Since then, we were back there two additional times. We love everything about it... the scent, the flowers, the people, the scenery. We love seeing pictures of Hawaii, reading and hearing about it. We have enough mileage for another free ticket to Hawaii. We are thinking of going to another place instead, but no place will seem as fulfilling as Hawaii.

I found Kauai and it's people to be as exciting as a trip to Tennessee. Sure there was some pretty scenery but that wears off after 10 minutes. There are so many better places to go in the world that Hawaii.

There are many places that are wonderful.. BTW I would not knock Tennessee, I have always wanted to treck down there for the national story telling festival in October. You also have Grand Old Opre, Elvis home along with beautiful country side. Heck I would like to go their to taste some traditional southern cooking. I find that you can find amazing things to do anywhere once you travel a bit off the beaten path in any destination you will understand what I mean. This means not sitting by and expecting only one obvious activity to fill your time. When we go we enjoy hiking, diving, swimming, snorkeling, more hiking, horse back riding, visit museums, National Gardens, Planataions, Farms, Canyon,Bird Sanctuaries (Kauai). YOU MUST CONQUE THE ISLAND MAN!

I am heading back for the third time in 3 years. I cancelled a trip to Japan to do so. I won't compare the two because you can't but I will say that it is very hard not to return to the North Shore of Kauai.
Vote Nay - I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I respect that. But did you just compare Kauai to Tennessee? C'mon. Kauai and the rest of the Hawaiian islands are one of the most beautiful places on this earth. If you are not an island person, that's your business. But, comparing Hawaii to Tennessee is something that is just impossible to do.

If Tenna. can compare with Kauai then I'm booking my tickets right now.
Memphis is on my "to do" list!

Different strokes-Different folks.
Wow, I know exactly how you feel! I went to Hawaii 2 years ago and still think about it daily. The place is magical!
Hawaii is one of those places that either you get it or you don't. Fortunately, we get it and go back every year and sometimes two or three times a year.

My father took me when I was 10 years old and I had never forgotten how much I loved Hawaii. When my husband and I eloped, of course we went directly to the Big Island and were married at sunset. We just keep going back. I am sure you are growing tired of these responses but I would like to suggest to you renting the movie Honeymoon in Vegas, there are great scenes of Kauai in it. There is a magazine you can subscribe to (www.hawaiimagazine.com). I send away for all the hotels free brochures just to see what is new and who offers what.

I've felt exactly as you do ever since our first trip to Hawaii in 1986. I daydream about it all year long and especially so during the winter months when I'd love to be sitting on my Hawaiian lanaii sipping a mai-tai and watching the sunset over the Pacific. We've returned almost every year since then (either fall or spring). One year we went to Mexico instead of Hawaii and it just didn't have the allure for me as Hawaii did. It's a magical place, even though it's become very crowded.
