Has Anyone Used Priceline or Hotwire on Kauai?
Aloha --
I'm having a glorious time in paradise--aka Kauai's North Shore. More about that when I do my trip report. The condo I rented for 3-1/2 weeks wasn't available for my last night so I'm looking for a place to stay for that final night. If the price is right I'll book it for two nights because my flight doesn't leave Lihue until 10 PM -- and it would be nice to have the room until it was time to leave. I checked betterbidding.com and the last entries re: Hawaii are years ago. I think the hotel list was from 2003. Anyone have any info about the Kauai hotels available through Hotwire and Priceline? Thanks! |

Re betterbidding - 2003 is probably when the list was first posted. The lists are kept pretty current, as far as I can tell. In any event, you can post on betterbidding what you are seeing on Hotwire (date, price, location, list of amenities) and the moderators will tell you if they "know" what hotel it is likely to be.

Thanks so much. Great info. I'll let you know what happens.

I used Priceline for our last day in Kauai (to have a place to shower before the airport). I spent $60 for a small hotel off Rice St in Lihue. It was very clean and very plain. It hadn't been updated in a long time, but it was spotless.

I just checked...it was the Kauai Palms. Cheap, not the least bit fancy or updated, but clean.

Thanks for the info. I really appreciate knowing Kauai Palms was clean and acceptable. The best thing about it is being next to Hamura's Saimin--and the proximity to the airport.
So far I haven't had any luck with cheap bids for 3 or 4 star hotels. I have two more weeks. When I get closer, if I still haven't had any luck, I'll drop to the 2 star level and try $60. Hotwire has a 2 star for $64.29. I'm guessing that would be it. For that price I won't mind booking it for the day of my flight, as well. Again, mahalo nui for the help! |
Songdoc, I'm pretty sure that's what you'll end up with on Hotwire. The rooms are small, old, ugly, but clean. It was great for storing luggage and showering before we went to the airport.

I just got the 3-star Marriott Courtyard Kauai Coconut Beach Hotel (Kapa'a) on Priceline for $79/nt. There's an additional $14/nt parking fee but I'm still pleased. I'd have been fine with Kauai Palms but I think I'll like this better.
Mahalo nui for all your help! |
Congrats--sounds like a pretty good deal. I have stayed at the Kauai Palms (I think) many years back & we enjoyed it there. It was a convenient location for us and not too far from the airport. Have never tried the Marriott there, but let us know how it goes.
