Selfish2 my wife loves my father and I welcome her parents also. I guess we do have a more traditional family. I see wifes parents as a part of her not something to dread.

Selfish the 22 yr old was being selfish and a child you are supose to know better. But I also don't understand why you are expected to do all the arranging our your husbands mother? I would expect for you to be involved but not more than your husband. And if you are the one having the discussions with the daughter that is what it sounds like.

Selfish,
Hang in there. I agree that in NO way should you be solely responsible for her improving her lifestyle. I think you said she's 75 and in good health? She needs to be responsible for her OWN happiness. I don't think you taking her on your vacation will help her at all in the long run. I also agree with marge who said that taking a 'family vacation with kids' is a lot different that taking a MIL on a romantic trip with you and your husband. Sounds like you are doing the best you can to make her happy. Taking her on YOUR vacation should not be part of the deal. JMHO

In reference to all the homeschool comments on Disney. I never stated that a Disney trip was an educational one. I stated that I was interested in the educational aspect of traveling up the East Coast. Yes, I homeschool. That does not mean that everytime we take our children somewhere that it has to be educational. Although, my children did visit each country in Epcot and learned a great deal while doing it. My son attempted to write and pronounce his name in each of the languages. The people they have at the Family Fun stations are really great about sharing their culture with you. So, yes, I guess parts of Disney can be considered educational. Just depends on which parts you choose.

Kari you don't have to defend yourself here. Your kids spent quality time with their grandmother. If nothing else you tought them how to be a family. Don't expect work day chat room vigilanties to have an understanding of what will teach your kids.
