Has anyone stayed in Sylvan Lake Lodge in Custer State Park, SD
 

The location looks beautiful, but the reviews are terrible. Is it really that bad?

Thinking of splitting our time in the park between Sylvan Lake and National Park Lodge. Would it be better to just stay at the latter lodge?

Duh, meant State Game Lodge, not National Park Lodge...

Stayed there last summer, ask for an updated room. It was fine and I can be picky. It is dated.

We did not stay there so I have no idea what the rooms are like but we did have a breakfast buffet on the patio and the views were great and and I remember thinking I would like to stay there because of the lake. We did stay at the State Game Lodge and had to move. The room we had did not have Air and it was hot, hot, hot! They have a motel ( like a motel 6) beside the Lodge that had an available room and we gladly took it because it had air conditioning so I would ask if the Lodge rooms all have air now. The food in their dining room was really good.

What time of the year were you there?

Clousie, it was summer, I believe July. It was about 8yrs ago so things could have changed by now.

In 2009 we stayed in 2 nights in the cabins at Legion Lake as in Custer. It was fine. Maybe thats another option?
