Has anyone stayed at the Westin St Francis in San Francisco?

We have reservations at the Westin St Francis hotel in San Francisco in october and heard (after we made reservations!) that the hotel is in the midst of a year long renovation. Has anyone stayed there recently? What was your experience like? Please don't reply if all you're going to do is make snide comments - genuine/honest replies are, however, welcome. Thank you.

I haven't stayed there recently but I can say from past experience that it is a lovely hotel and as well situated as any in San Francisco.

Have a wonderful time!
Shelly

I also haven't stayed in the St. Francis for quite a while, but I did stay in another Westin last week and their "Heavenly Beds" are really heavenly!

The rooms in the newer "tower" are nicer but more generic. I personally like the old, odd-shaped rooms in the older part of the hotel. The lobby bars are great for people-watching and the location is one of San Francisco's best. Enjoy!

Debbie--
We atayed at the Westin St. Francis in May and, at that time, the hotel was not undergoing renovation. Union Square, however, directly outside the front door, was under construction.

Our corner room, in the older section of the hotel, was comfortable, spacious and bright. Service could not have been better. We enjoyed staying there and would certainly look forward to a return visit.

Have a wonderful time!

I've stayed at this hotel a couple of times and although the rooms are a bit small, they're comfortable. However, the staff is what really makes the difference! I've been impressed with their willingness to take care of so many people! The location really is great. I think you should call and ask to speak with the manager on duty. Explain that you want to ensure you're not bothered by construction and could he/she make that happen? Enjoy yourself. It's a nice hotel.

Stayed at the ST. Francis last fall. We prefer the old hotel rather than the tower. The lobby renovation has been completed. I would call and ask if there is further renovation going on. We didn't see any. As someone above said, the location is perfect.
