Has anyone stayed at the Villa Florence?
I am researching San Francisco Hotels for May. The Villa Florence is the most moderately priced ($149/night) hotel I have found in/near Union Square. And it looks very nice on their website. Just looking for firsthand feedback before booking? Has anyone been there?
I stayed there years ago. Our room was comfortable but small. We had a street side room, so I remember the clanking of the streetcars and the traffic going by all night, but would I stay there again? Probably so - for that price and that location, it's a deal. We ate the restaurant, Culetto's, I think - and it was good.

We stayed here once. It was undergoing lobby renovation and the room was stdard hotel imho. At that time the restaurant was Kuleto's, a fabulous Italian place.

We prefer the Monticello Inn on Ellis St [I think] just one block off of Union Square. It has some atmosphere [colonial obviously], wine at the end of the day and a very helpful front desk. The attached restaurant was italian last time I was there. It usually runs a little less than VF.

Has anyone been there recently? It appears as though they have done some renovating. Thanks to those of you who have provided feedback!!
I stayed there when attending a meeting and the idiot on the front desk refused to complete my checkout because it was Saturday and I was paying (as I stated on checkin) with a company check. Since it is my company, I am authorized and the IRS is very clear about reimburesments for business, so I did not want to use my personal credit card. The deskidiot refused to call the manager for rewiew, and wanted to take the next person in line when I complained. Therefore, I WILL NOT STAY AT ANY KIMCO CHAIN HOTEL. My dollar can speak for itself. I never recieved any response to my letter to the corp owners. Kuletos is EXCELLENT, however. I return there often....they're quite busy, so make reservations or expect to wait.
