Has anyone seen Blue Man Group show in Chicago?
We are planning our February weekend in Chicago. Have made reservations at the Talbott Hotel through HotRooms and got a great rate, I think, $119 a night. We will be seeing "The Producers" Saturday night. Would like to do something different on Friday night. Saw the Blue Man Group booth during the Miracle Mile Lights Festival and wondered what this show could be like. Any recommendations?

Not in Chicago, but in Boston. In a word...awesome!

Maggi,

You're coming back?!?! That's awesome!

Blue Man Group has been highly recommended by everybody that I know that has seen it. I can't believe I haven't seen it myself, it's one of those "take-it-for-granted-because-it's-in-Chicago" things.

February will be brutally cold. What else do you wanna do this time? A little underground?

Danny

Can you tell me how what age (child-wise) Blue Man Group would be appropriate for? How long does the show last?
|
I saw Blue Man Group in Boston about 2 years ago. It is VERY bizarre, but quite entertaining. Lots of loud drumming, and clever pantomine skits using plastic pipes, balls, etc, with some audience participation. I think any child over 8 would enjoy it, but the music may be too intense for very young children. If your tastes are on the tradtional side, it might not be your cup of tea!

Kim, there's a website for Blue Man Group at www.blueman.com. The website says that the show is appropriate for ages 6 and over but that there are 2 bad words. I think maybe 8 and older as Doug suggested might be OK. It is very loud and colorful so I think kids would enjoy it.

Maggi, if you're looking for dining up in that area, Leona's has good pizza and someone I work with recommended Mia Francesca.

Blue Man Group! Yes!! GO!!!! It is a wonderful show and suitable for any age. It is hard to describe the show but it is wonderful, weird, and well worth the money. We say them in Las Vegas at the Luxor. I would go back in a minute. PLEASE GO YOU WILL LIKE IT!!!

I saw the show this summer with my husband and 2 daughters, 23 and 25. It was nothing like I have ever seen before! AWESOME!!!!!!! Go for it!!!! It was wonderful!

Thanks everybody for your replies. Sounds like fun - it will try to get tickets. We saw Cirque de Soleil's "O" in Las Vegas and it blew me away. I'm always interested in anything different. We will also try to do a real blues club for a late night gig on Friday night. Danny, we are from Detroit - and are no strangers to cold! That won't stop us!

Maggi:

I'm much more interested in hearing about "The Producers." Is it a live-stage version of the movie? If so, where could I get more info. on it? If it's 1/2 as good as the movie, it'd be worth the trip!

Thanks!

Rich, "The Producers" in Chicago is a warm up for the Broadway show starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. Mel Brooks' name is in the title of the show so I suspect its a stage version of the movie. For more info go to www.theatre.com and do a search for The Producers. There was an article dated 12/1 that had more info on it.

Tickets go on sale today at 9:00, you can get them at www.ticketmaster.com. The show runs from 2/1-2/25/01. It's at the Cadillac Palace Theatre, one of the recently restored theatres in Chicago.

My husband and I visited his sister in Chicago last year and saw Blue Man Group while we were there. It was fantastic. Not the typical theater experience-- very interactive and rhythmic, but no dialogue. There were several young children there who seemed to enjoy it, but I wouldn't take anyone under the age of five because they might get bored.

Rich, I understand "The Producers" is a musical with the storyline based on that of the movie, which was written and directed by Mel Brooks. Apparently he even wrote the music for this musical! I think his work is hysterical (ex. one of the numbers in the movie, "Springtime for Hitler") Of course, Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick are major talents. I am anticipating this to be a big hit, and those of us who see it now will be able to say we were there when it began! I was able to get my tickets through an early phone offer to American Express customers. But I'd call soon if you want to get in on the fun.

Saw the Blue Man Group in Chicago a couple of years ago....AMAZING! Very talented, creative and humorous entertainmant. Good for all age groups. Be prepared for loud sounds and music.
|
The majority of friends loved it (from 27-60). I attended 12/31/99 and hated it. Thought it was too loud and sophomoric. Just depends on your level of humor.

Blue Man Group is hot. I saw it in New York, Las Vegas, AND Chicago! (the third time with clients) My sercet for finding cool stuff to do in cities around the country is definitely www.room12.com. Their "dont miss" section is an excellent resource.
