OH, I had to write back, ya'll. The south is the south. Northeast people, you will never get it. It does not change; that is the beauty of it.Frankly,I am tired of body piercings & all of this non-conservative behavior going on in today's society & I have had it with Mexicans!our crime rate here in AZ has gone way up due to them. And there is the whole east coast to play on. I grew up in Richmond & thank God. Sure, I grew up in a bubble but compared to what kids go thru today I'll take it.Diversity you want? dont go to VA-it is conservative, yes southern white, southern black. I get it.

Since I just came back from my hometown area, it is fresh in my mind that the worst place I ever lived was the first place I ever lived. The Detroit area. MI weather, some of the worst including very few days with sunshine, terrible traffic, terrible roads, overpriced housing, crime rampant. I have since lived in IA, CA, FL. There's no place like home HA!!

The south is the south. I should know since I am from there? where are you from? I have lived in MI, FL, VA, AZ, CA-have you?

Let's see, I'd have to say Long Beach, California. Lots of great things about the area, but when I lived there I couldn't come close to affording any of them, lol!
Crime was rather prevalent (stolen cars the norm), cost of living (especially housing and auto insurance) was astronomical, all the land had been developed long ago and there was no open space, lots of air pollution, and whenever you decided to do something you'd be guaranteed that thousands of other people had decided to do the same thing and had already beat you to it.
BUT, I feel I have to list the good points as well -- fabulous fresh produce at the markets and dirt cheap to boot; within a bike ride to the beach, fun and funky beach restaurants, and those overdeveloped neighborhoods usually had everything you could need within walking distance.
But I was still glad to move away.

Az2hot, what is so dumb is how terribly bigoted you are. Your post was blathering nonsense and what sentences did make sense were racist. Do you really want to get into the "where have you been" debate? I've been to almost every city/state in the US many times over and travel in Europe one month year. Just feel fortunate you were not born in a third world country. Perhaps if you did travel more you would realize just how good you have it.

MI as in Michigan? Sorry, guess I don't really consider that as true South. I guess I'm too used to thinking "Deep South" as in Mississippi (MS), my home.
Annnnd........we aren't filled with bigots! My neighborhood racial make-up: 50% Caucasion, 10% Indian, 10% Oriental, 30% African American....and everyone in my neighborhood are loyal to our little suburb town! NO....we don't stop people in cars with non-Southern license plates and beat them up! We have progressed too far for that even though the press won't show that side of Miss. (Not controversial enough, I guess.) SO sick of self-righteous people that think they know everything about states or towns that they have never been in or have only spent a few days in.....sigh!
Not trying to sound pious; but I travel and personally love the new experiences in new towns and search for the good things that exsist differently in every place.
