Has anyone been to the Bodyworlds exhibit?

I just saw that this exhibit is currently in Dallas. I have heard rave reviews about it and it looks fascinating. For those that don't know, they have used some kind of plastination process to preserve human bodies so that you can see the anatomy. As a former Gross Anatomy student, it looks great! Has anyone been to the exhibit before?

My sister saw it and loved it. I'd love to see it.

I saw it when it was in Cleveland. I found it very educational. My husband felt they were going more for art displays then education but I did not feel that way. Something bothered him about not honoring the dead. I thought it was very interesting.

I saw it in Dallas last weekend. I had seen enough advance press on it that I knew what to expect. Still, I was very surprised at how queasy I got. I had to leave early and wait for my group.

It was very crowded, similar to when Dead Sea Scrolls came to Field in Chicago. We didn't buy our tix in advance, but most people did.

For a real in-depth experience, you can rent the headphones. You cannot use your cell phone or camera during the exhibit. There is no readmittance.

FYI - Two Dallas museums merged last year into one museum of Natural History and Science. This means your ticket gets you into the 'dinosaur' museum on the same Fair Park campus too.

I've seen it before and found it fascinating. To me, it's not gross or gory at all. At the end you could touch some samples of the muscle and a brain, which was kind of weird but other than that it was fine.

I saw it with my 16 yr old dtr when it was in Boston. I am a nurse but it sort of creeped me out, although it was fascinating. My dtr enjoyed it more than I did.

It says all bodies were donations, so that was a little better. I just felt a little like it was an invasion of their privacy.

Did give a unique view of how everything fits together - and I have seen an autopsy - but this was different because it is all color coded and labeled.

My daughter is in LPN nursing school and her whole class took a field trip to South Street Seaport in NYC to see it. They all loved it and want to go again. Their teachers were in awe.

I had to reply to this message! My husband and I saw this exhibit in LA in summer, 2005. My husband was so taken with it that he is ready to donate his body! I also loved it, but not sure I'm ready for the body donation. My daughter (a doctor) and her friend (another doctor) were not quite as impressed, but maybe because they see this stuff everyday. Anyway, I think it is certainly worth seeing! It is very tastefully done, but maybe not for the very queasy among us!

I saw this exhibit in Atlanta and found it very interesting. We rented the headphones as well and it definitely added to the experience. I did not find it creepy or gory. I would highly recommend going.

We attended the exhibit in Cleveland and thought it was fascinating. It was only later than I read some disturbing stories about how some of the bodies had been acquired. If you want to know more:

I just saw the exhibit 2 days ago in chicago. While not a health care professional, I have always been very interested in anatomy. I found this exhibit to be very interesting and very disturbing at the same time. I think it is very interesting to see the way that the human body is composed. This plastination process allowed a view of the body that is amazing.

However, I found it very disturbing due to a few of the bodies being done in what I considered a very disrespectful way - they have one called the "rings body" the body has been placed holding gymnastics rings as if in the middle of a routine - then the skin has been stripped away in rings around the body - it was alternating stripes of skin all over the body. Why? By this point we had seen many bodies, why the stripes of skin? What educational value did this present? Very high on the "ick" factor - the human body is a work of art in and of itself, needing no additional demonstration assistance of this nature. And i won't even tell you about "drawer man"...

I agree jujubean, those are good observations. I actually think the more you really know about anatomy the less you may "like" how it is presented. But if you don't know much at all, it is worth seeing for instruction. With some respect too. Which was not always present, IMHO, I noticed that too.

If this is the same thing as the 'Bodies' exhibit that has been traveling the country, was shown in the 007 movie Casino Royale and has been in Las Vegas for a while, I saw it.
I had free tickets to see it at the Tropicana over New Years. After seeing it, I made a more serious New Years Resolution od being healthier.
