Hartsfield Atlanta Airport-Is 35 minutes enought time to change planes?
Delta Airlines cancelled my original flight through JFK and now has me connecting in Atlanta. I will be switching from a Comair flight to a Delta Flight. Is it possible to do this in 35 minutes? They say this is a legal connection.

If you fly out of the same concourse that you arrive in, it's doable. If not, it will be a very narrow window.
I would call Delta and ask. |
Delta said that they do not assign gates until 3 days before the flight. This flight is on Thanksgiving Day, and I am afraid if I miss the flight I won't be able to get another and I will be stranded in Atlanta until after the Thanksgiving rush is over. On the other hand, Delta keeps saying that it is a legal connection. They have no history on this schedule as it does not go into effect until Nov. 1. Any advise on what to do. I had a really good connection on the cancelled flight through JFK which is why I chose it. This connection really is horrible and I am at a loss as to what to do.

Not positive but I thought the legal connection time was 50 minutes. 35 minutes in not comfortable at all.

You're close but okay if it's on the same concourse. If you have to switch concourses, you probably won't make it. Sorry.
If it's actually ON Tday, you'll have more of a chance because the airport won't be as crowded that Thursday as the days before and after. |
DL doesn't publish a minimum connection time for the public. But based on threads I'm reading on flyertalk.com, it may either be 30 or 35 minutes at ATL.
If they allow it, then it's probably "legal" to DL. If you're not comfortable, you should call and be put on other flights. They can and will do this for free, and is generally not capacity controlled. So, take a look at the timetables again and see which flights you prefer. |
I would request to be rescheduled if possible. We found Atlanta's airport to be very large.
|
How long is the delay if you connect to the next flight? If it's an every hour destination, have Delta connect you to the following flight and have a cup of coffee.
|
Ditto the other responses: if it's on the same concourse it is probably okay. If you have to hoof it to the trams or people movers, you have a problem.
If you have options, ask yourself if worrying about this is worth it to you. I vote for the cup of coffee as sugggested. |
Thanks for the advice. Delta rescheduled me with 1 hour and 15 minutes between flights. This was the best they could offer. I have to say the people I dealt with at Delta were very nice and tried the best they could to help. I know that they don't make the schedules.

shelleyK,
I don't work for an airline nor does anyone in my family. I wanted to thank you for the kind remarks you made about the Delta staff. So many of us complain, complain, myself included and we never think of the people doing their jobs the best they can. I will say I'm a FF of Delta for 54 years and I've mostly been treated kindly. I've dealt with other wonderful people with other airlines. Good Luck, Joan |
