Hartford suburbs: relocating

Help! My husband has been relocated to Hartford, CT. We are not totally unfamiliar with the area, but we are torn about where to live. We have two small kids and have heard Madison is beautiful. How does that commmute stack up against one from one of the closer towns like Avon?

Madison is on the shore and will be about a 2 hour per day commute (average depending on traffic conditions). Avon is closer to Hartford - nice town with a very good school system. The daily commute will on average be 30-40 minutes (round trip).

Have you considered Simsbury or Granby? Nice family-oriented towns north of Hartford.

Many nice towns to consider actually. Can you say a bit more what you're looking for? Glastonbury or South Glastonbury might be options, West Hartford for sure, etc.

Is Madison really 2 hours???? My sister just bought a beach house in Old Lyme and it's under an hour from Hebron (where she lives) and also under an hour from Enfield (where my mom lives).

Madison IS beautiful, if you want to be near the water, check out Old Saybrook as well, it's more of a direct shot.

BTW, my sis loves Hebron, small town, rural feel. I lived in Farmington when I first graduated from college and loved it, but I like to be closer to the water, I've since moved to Fairfield county.

jbetty asked for help over a month ago, but has not posted/responded since then.

Maybe the job relocation fell through.
