Harpers Ferry, WV area for dinner

After visiting Harpers Ferry in the afternoon, we'll eat dinner, and then drive into Washington D.C. that evening. Restaurant reviews on Tripadvisor have been mixed. Where do you suggest we eat dinner?

For more upscale dining, head to Shepherdstown, about 10 miles away. The Press Room, the Yellow Brick Bank, Stone Soup Bistro are all good and within two blocks on German St. (the main drag in town). Be forewarned that weekends are heavily trafficked and the Press Room is very popular - make reservations several days in advance.

Yellow Brick Bank in Shepherdstown is very good, but a wee bit in the wrong direction from Harpers Ferry to Washington, DC.

I would suggest an alternate route and go through Purcellille (eat at Magnolia's at the Mill) or through Leesburg (eat at Tuscarora Mill or Lightfoot) then hop on the Greenway/Toll Road (267) to Washington DC.

There's an old pile of a hotel in Harpers Ferry, Hilltop House. It is about falling down, held up on good intentions alone. Must have been great in its day, 100 years ago.

Anyway, the have a buffet dinner featuring excellent fried chicken. So if you are in the mood for plain old cooking with a spectacular view over the valley, stop off on the way out of town.

My parents have enjoyed both the Yellow Brick Bank and the Hilltop House with the Brick Bank being their favorite because of it's history and they think the food is good.

Thanks for the dinner suggestions! Looking at my map, I had planned on leaving Harpers Ferry after dinner, heading over to Frederick, MD, and then down to Washington D.C. on Hwy 270, which I think will take approx. 1 1/2 hours. Is going by way of Leesburg and 267 a good/better alternative? Thanks for any help.
