Harlem, UWS tours?
I'll be staying at my daughter's apartment on W. 117th st. Mon/Tues. next week while she's working. I've been trying to figure out what sort of tours of the area might be the best.
I'm particularly interested in food, music, culture, history. Anyone have any experience with a particular group? Thanks, bobbye |
Not much going on mid winter on a Mon/Tues - look at www.harlemheritage.com or www.bigapplejazz.com
or the www.mas.org downtown tour for president's day If you've got money to spend, I'm a licensed guide and underemployed during the winter. |
Are you looking for a bus tour ( I have no experiences with those), a walking tour, or tours of specific facilities?
For example, Cathedral of St John the Divine, close to where you will be, has several tours http://www.stjohndivine.org/pe_forthcoming.html There are also tours of Lincoln Center(50 blocks away), The Apollo theater (about 15-20 blocks away )Radio City, Carnegie Hall, etc. You would have to get to each location (was this a concern of yours in an earlier post?) but then you would be able to tour what you really want to see. Bus tours are mostly driving past the places, with little or no time inside. And you'd still have to get to where the bus tour starts, so maybe you'd be better off picking the sites you want to see and we can tell you how to get there. |
I drew up and did the following self-guided walking tour of this area based on some research and recommendations. Feel free to use or not as you wish:

Since the weather's so nasty, I'm not looking into walking tours, or at least more than walking from the bus into a building. Any suggestions for bus tours?
