Happy 4th of July! Quote someone commenting about this land we love.

I'll start --

July 4th, 1944--France, after dark in a muddy hole with Van-- we were getting the hell shelled out of us by everything the Germans could throw.

"My fondest hope for each one of you is that you will love your country, not for her power or wealth, but for her selflessness and her idealism.

May each of you have the heart to conceive, the understanding to direct, and the hand to execute works that will make the world a little better for your having been here.

May all of you as Americans never forget your heroic origins, never fail to seek divine guidance, and never lose your natural, God-given optimism.

And finally, my fellow Americans, may every dawn be a great new beginning for America and every evening bring us closer to that shining city upon a hill."

.........Ronald Reagan, 1992

'One ought never to turn one's back on a threatened danger and try to run away from it. If you do that, you will double the danger. But if you meet it promptly and without flinching, you will reduce the danger by half. Never run away from anything, never!'

Winston Churchill

or:

'We shalll draw from the heart of suffering itself the means of inspiration and survival.'
