Hand luggage on US flights

We are planning to fly from Boston to Buffalo and only want to take carry on luggage. Can anyone tell me if there are limitations on what we can take on board. Here in the UK we cannot take aerosols, large bottles of perfume/aftershave etc. I would be grateful for any information.

Check out the official guidelines on the TSA site

Basically anything liquid has to fit in a quart size ziploc (which is quite small) and must be in a container that is marked less than three oz.

To clarify, everything liquid or gel must together fit into one non-crammed 1-qt. ziplock bag. You can't have multiple plastic bags. There are some exceptions for prescription medication, breast milk, etc.

Also, most airlines allow one 22 inch sized bag and a purse or small camera bag or diaper bag per person. Check the airlines website.
Like everyone said above, only one quart sized ziplock bag with 3oz max size in bottles. Of course, all medications are allowed with prescription labels.
You can buy almost anything cheaply here in supermarkets and drugstores. I would just bring necessities and pick up the needed items on arrival.

Actually, I was pretty amazed at what can fit in a 1 quart bag if the bottles are small.

Regarding how much luggage you can take on board - your airline website will give you size limits, and these are sometimes enforced, sometimes not. Also, Boston-Buffalo may use smaller regional jet, in which case they will be stricter about carry-on size but will allow you then to "gate check" the item - meaning you take it to door of plane, either on jetway or tarmac, and they put it in the underbelly of the plane and return it to comparable place after flight.

Other issue is food/beverage - also explained on TSA website. You can bring food, but not beverage on plane, unless beverage is purchased inside of security.

And they make you take your shoes off when you pass thru security, even if they are light sandals.
