Hancock Bldg Observation deck
We will be in Chicago next week and were wondering is the observation deck preferable to the 95th Floor for picture taking. I was interested in having the buffet lunch at the Signature Lounge but not if we can't step out and take photos.
Thanks for your response |
flowerpatch, when you get into the elevator, they ask if you want to stop at the observation deck first or go straight to the restaurant.

AFAIK, the 2 venues do not use the same elevator..... The observatory deck elevator is a dedicated elevator for the deck only. The 95th Restaurant and the 96th Signature Lounge have their own elevators. |

Thanks for correcting me, I guess I was confusing it with the CN Tower. |
It's been quite a while since I've been up there, but last time I was, there wasn't anywhere to take pictures (other than through the windows) in the restaurant or Lounge. If it's changed, I hope someone will post with that info. But my guess is that, for picture taking, you're probably better off going to the observation deck.

CAPH52-you are correct, the observation deck is where you can "step out" to take photos, but it does have a fence...if you have a small lens, you may be able to shoot through it. The windows on either the lounge or observation deck floors are just fine for photos - I got some great ones there last year.
It is easier to take photos on the observation deck...no tables of people to work around. |
To be honest, between Sears and Hancock, I preferred the view from Hancock Tower better. But correct, if in Signature Room, you may have to ask someone to move their head before taking a photo. That's not so bad, is it? ;)
