Hanalei Colony Resort - Kauai
 

Has anyone been to this resort recently? Wondering about the 2 bedroom 2 bath ocean front condos. Like the location! Is the beach nice?

Beach is lovely, but we have a strong rip current there -- swimming/snorkeling is ill-advised at any time of the year. The property includes a swimming pool though, and you're just minutes away from beaches which offer excellent swimming and snorkeling opportunities (Camp Naue, Makua, and Ke`e).

My husband stayed at the Hanalie colony Resort in Oct. in an oceanfront 2bedroom sutie adn just loved it. The unite we stayed in was upstaris and very clean with nice furniture. There is no Air condition but lots and lots of windows for the breeze to come in and for the fantastic views. You are only about 10 feet from the water so the wind and surf can be loud when you are trying to sleep.
THey do have a laundry room and a small pool and hot tub.

It seems silly to complain about how loud the surf is :-) It is in a great location very near Kee and Tunnels beach.
The beach there is nice to walk on but way too rough to get in. Go to Tunnels or Kee beach.

There do have little shop next door for morning coffe and bagels etc.

Is this the place that has no TVs/Phones and is next door to the old Charo's?
If so, we have some friends that love the place.

Has a new restaurant gone into the old Charo's yet? Beautiful building/great location, but....

Yep, that's the one. As for the old Charo's restaurant, we're on the 3rd new one there -- and it's not doing well either. I think that location is doomed...8-)

Too bad on the restaurant. Maybe the HCR can buy it and make it a Wedding Palace?
Stay at HBR, marry on the beach/grounds and reception at Charo's?

Thanks for all the replies. Sounds like a great place. When I see pictures of the bedrooms - they look rather open (at the top) to the rest of the room. Are all the units like that? We would have two couples staying in one unit... Looks like it may be a good fit for one couple rather than two.

The pitched-roof, cathedral-ceilings are common architecture in tropical climates like ours -- allows warm air to rise, helping to keep the room cool.

For privacy, there are floor-to-ceiling walls fully-enclosing each bedroom and bathroom.

We stayed ther in Oct. and there are floor to ceiling louvered doors that separate the beroom to the left of the dinning area and patio that can be closed completely. there is a half wall that separates the 2nd bedroom from the living room with louvered doors on top of that which can be closed. But keep in mind these doors are not sound proof :-)
