Hanalei Bay Resort on Kauai--good snorkeling?

We are thinking about staying at Hanalei Bay Resort on Kauai next September. Is there good snorkeling from their beach? What did you think of the resort in general? We are looking for a less expensive alternative to Princeville Resort. Thanks for your advice!

I think some of the best snorkeling is down the road at Ke Beach and Tunnels Beach. ((b))

I agree, Tunnels Beach does have some of the best snorkeling on the north side of the island. I would actually like to try doing a shore dive there some time.

The beach gradually gets deaper, there is plenty of space to snorkel you have to kick out a ways to get to deaper water, but I can only imagine what is out there.

As far as staying at Hanalea Bay Resort. I know nothing about it. I tend to stay on the south shore. (less rain)

We enjoyed our stay in a Hanalei Bay Resort condo last August. The beach is about a 5-10 minute walk down the hill and is adjacent to the Princeville Resort beach. (The beach chairs are for PR guests only.)

The snorkeling there was not good at all when we were there. Visibility was poor. I agree with the others -- Ke`e and "Tunnels" offered the very best snorkeling.

Here's a link to my trip report, which includes a link to some photos taken at the HBR:

Thanks everyone. I think this might be our place! I have read that the Tunnels are only calm enough to snorkel in the Summer--So do you think it will be calm enough in early/mid September? Thanks again!
