Hanalei Bay Resort - no dining/no bar

Well, now the 2nd potential buyer of the Hanalei Bay Resort's dining room and bar has backed out. The official word is "we have no potential buyers at this time".

So if you're headed for a Princeville vacation anytime soon, here's a quick list of Princeville eateries -- starting near the Princeville Hotel and working out toward the highway:

Saffron's Mediterranean Gourmet (at Pali Ke Kua) -- dinner only

Nanea (at the new Westin Resort, Wyliie Road) -- breakfast, lunch & dinner

CJs Steakhouse (Princeville Center) -- lunch weekdays; dinner every night

Paradise Cafe (Princeville Center) -- breakfast, lunch & dinner

Northshore Grinds (inside the Princeville Chevron gas station, really!) -- breakfast, lunch & dinner (take-out only)

Prince Golf clubhouse -- breakfast, lunch daily; dinner Mon/Wed/Fri

And the deli at Foodland (Princeville Center) for lunch or dinner take-out (and Foodland's famous huli-huli chicken).

Yep, during our stay last month, no Kaukau at HBR as per D.O.H.
:S-
The newly found :)>- and :$ ((R)) atmosphere was serenely fulfilling despite an empty, Belly Hi.

Of course, we escaped to the Hyatt before any construction began #o.

We told people that the hellhole was dark, had no nightlife and no food....they mocked us....

auntiemaria Oct 24th, 2008 04:14 PM

I see you "kids" are playing in this sandbox again!! :))

The HBR restaurant closed last year; the bar closed at the beginning of summer. Bummers. But has been already mentioned, you can still go sit and enjoy the views...just BYOB! 8-)

What was announced as "8-month major renovation" of the Princeville Hotel began in September. We're guessing it will actually reopen in about 10 months...

I am really looking forward to your trip report JohnD! Remember trip reports? You used to do them. People used to like them. Remember? Huh? Do ya? /:)

JohnD Oct 24th, 2008 06:20 PM

Mahalo Bill, much appreciate your kind words.

((i))Willing to make a deal, to author another Kaua`i T.R., when the Kahuna finishes his Italy T.R., Ciao for now.

iamq Oct 24th, 2008 07:15 PM

Well, okay then...

Northshore Grinds! I loved that place. Fresh fish, local beef, organic snacks. Who would have guessed--inside a gas station!

gyppielou Jul 22nd, 2009 10:33 AM

Wow that is indeed good news, although I am sure the 2002 menu has changed!

lvk Jul 22nd, 2009 10:53 AM

Interesting approach, stnioz, or should we call you summitpacific? Topping all these old Kauai threads with links to your website. [-X It is not blatant advertising, since you are answering questions, but it has been noted.

gyppielou Jul 22nd, 2009 11:12 AM

well you'd think they'd at least post a new updated menu and pics with this grand opening news. . . thanks lvk

iamq Jul 22nd, 2009 12:04 PM

Yikes, the girl's been busy. This sagging economy has forced formerly reputable companies to perform desperate acts.

lvk Jul 22nd, 2009 12:09 PM

... but it was good to see auntiemaria's name pop up here again. :)

iamq Jul 22nd, 2009 12:12 PM

Yes it was!

I was thrilled to see a bunch of "new" topics when I signed in to Fodor's today. Not so thrilled to see the OP dates.
I did find the excessive referrals to Summit Pacific questionable. Then again, that's the site where I found the unit I'm renting in Nov '09 and I certainly have no tie-in to them. Any chance stnoiz is just a very satisfied customer?
Hmmm. Probably not. Sad.

We are due to be there in September and was planning on staying at the St. Regis but the late opening has changed that and we have points with Marriott Kauai Villas but see on Trip Advisor the horrific reviews on the major renovations going on till Oct..we all don't want to deal with that....plus, they didn't tell me or a lot of others that I see from reading those 20+ posts of people just beyond pissed off..who can blame them?
We love the Grand Hyatt but saw that the Koa Kea hotel looks lovely and luxurious!
Anyone stay there?

Aloha and a big ol'Mahalo to all!
