Hana Timing
If we leave Kaanapali at 6AM and take our time driving to Hana and beyond (the full loop), can we make dinner reservations at Mama's Fish House at 6:15? I understand it's good to be at Mama's for the sunset, but I also want to leave enough time to enjoy the Hana journey. It's not necessary for us to stop at EVERY waterfall along the highway, but don't want to feel rushed either :) What are your thoughts?

Yes, you can make it. I just had a few Mai Tai at Jacques in Paia tonight and came over to the Internet Cafe to see what people are chatting about. It's just down the street from Mama's. It was VERY windy today. We are staying in Huelo and our power is out. The silver lining being we get our money back for today. Yeah!!!
Back to the question.... You are giving yourself 12 hours and that is quite generous. Factor in you are leaving very early and that should help some more. We will be doing the drive this week and will post again after doing it. |
Hey Pammer,
While in Maui last Feb., we left Wailea around the time you are and barely made it back for an 8 P.M. reservation at Mama's (actually didn't show up until 8:20). But we also stopped at most, if not all, of the things mentioned in Maui Revealed. If you pick and choose your favorites ahead of time and only stop at those, you shouldn't have trouble making it there by 6:15. Enjoy! |
Thanks to both of you.
Doug - We went through Maui revealed last night and highlighted the "must sees" on the Hana road. Looks like we want to stop at about 1/2 the spots listed. 6:15pm reservations just might work... Dantheman - will be anxious to hear about your Hana trip! |
We did the (full loop) and it took till about 9:00pm, but we did stop frequently. Lets face it your on one of THE MOST fantastic roads in the world. there is much to see and experience like THE SEVEN POOLS and JAWS(southside of Haleakala) many stops aren't on any map and were not planned but just happened.
good luck, don't be in a hurry |
