Hana road safety

Hi, I am interested in Nancy's revelation about being robbed on the road to Hana. We very much want to take that trip. Nancy, if you care to tell, we would like to know the circumstances. We are usually cautious, but since the road to Hana seems somewhat remote, that may be a cause for concern. Thanks very much for any reply.

We drove Hana Highway in June with 2 kids in a convertible. Lots of cars on the road, lots of people at the main stop off points.. We did not go off the beaten path. I had no safety concerns at all.
I have read nothing regarding crime problems in this area. However, anyone can be robbed at any time in any location.
Take the drive, you will never forget the trip.

I agree with previous post. Took the drive and stopped at several locations without even a hint of trouble. Plan on spending the whole day driving to and from Hana - lots and lots of hairpin turns and bridges.

We took the road to Hana in April and had no troubles. We stopped at several places to hike and look around. I wouldn't leave anything of value out in the open in your rental car.

When we drove to Hana the most dangerous thing around were the pineapple trucks! They thought they owned that narrow strip of highway. Take the trip. It's an experience. If you have the time I would spend the night in Hana before driving back.
