Hamptons Hotel/Location Help for July

My wife and I, early 30s are planning a trip to the Hamptons for a couple of days in July? Any suggestions on where to stay? Southampton, East Hampton or Sag Harbor? Would also appreciate specific hotel recommendations as well. Thanks.

There is a little motel called White Sands in Amagansett that is directly on the beach, and a short drive to East Hampton or Montauk. It's pricey but it's right on the beach.

Your age doesn't really tell us what you'd like. Budget, whether or not you'll have a car, whether you're more a beach person or not, what activities you're interested in (clubbing at night?), preference for motel, inn or b & b will have more affect on which town or specific place would be best for you. All 3 towns are lovely and all have ok to very nice options. Have you been to the Hamptons before? Do you want to be in a place right on the water? Do you need a pool? Will go you go on a weekend or a weekday?

We would like to spend, ideally under $300 per night. We are going to spend more time exploring the various towns and eating rather than sitting on the beach tanning. We are going to go for a couple of nights midweek. We would prefer an inn or B&B. I will stay in whichever town offers the best accomodations.

I don't know whether your budget will work but...

in East Hampton is very nice (but may not be available).

enclaveinn.com has 3 locations. They're more motels, but staying in Bridgehampton or Wainscott is very central. You're equidistant from East Hampton and Southampton, the 2 major shopping towns. There are also some good restaurants in Bridgehampton.

The Southampton Village Motel I think may be a bargain. I haven't seen the rooms but the photo looks nice, the location is good (just outside the village but you could walk).

A Butler's Manor in Southampton gets very good reviews on tripadvisor, but I think will be over your budget.

Since you don't intend on concentrating on the beach, I don't think it's necessary to go as far as Amagansett or Montauk, but that's where you'll find on the beach accomodation if you want it.

Another vote for Enclave Inn ... the Ocean Colony & Gurney's, further out, are also options.
