Hampton Inn, DC convention center opinions?

We'll be staying at the new Hampton Inn near the convention center in DC at the end of May. It has gotten great reviews on Trip Advisor. But, I'm a little nervous about it. I have been fortunate enough to stay at slightly higher-end hotels over the last couple of years. However, for this trip we are barely going to be at the hotel and are travelling with close friends on a tighter budget. So, I suggested this. I just want to be prepared. Any opinions?

What exactly are you worried about? Incompetent concierge? Inferior toiletries? Hookers in the halls?

I agree. Good reviews on TripAdvisor. Do you think you are slumming it by staying at a Hampton Inn? If so, book elsewhere so you won't be miserable on the entire trip.

Hampton Inns are my #1 pick when choosing a moderate hotel anywhere I go. I've never been disappointed and two have been really great (Savannah and Myrtle Beach).

If you are barely going to be in the hotel then what's the worry or is all that "a hotel is only a place to sleep" a bunch of BS as some of us have always suspected?

It's in a hot, up-and-coming neighborhood. I would describe the neighborhood as "slightly gritty" and if you aren't used to urban life, it may be intimidating. OTOH, it's on a busy street in a busy part of town and close to Chinatown/Penn Quarter and the Convention Center, as well as the Circulator bus.

It's a brand new hotel, so I would expect things are going to be very fresh.

Thanks, MikeT and Starrsville sounds like it will be just right. I've spent years in the Village (NYC) so the location sounds great.

Anonymous, inferior service would be a concern especially if I am planning for others, too. Is that so obnoxious? Cut me some slack.
