HALLOWEEN TRIP
Being somewhat of an overgrown kid, I've always enjoyed trying to find something special to do for Halloween. Any ideas on places where I could plan a trip to that has something special for Halloween?
From where? How far are you willing to travel?
Anywhere within the continental United States.
I will sell you tickets to see me in the morning. That is a very scary site. And then for kicks I will sell you tickets to tour my closet halloween nite, all my critters will be back. Just be sure to use flea spray and soap on your skin and body, seems to help with the lice too. Forget the garlic necklaces though, I am immune to them.

I've heard that Fantasy Fest in Key West is a lot of fun... and I'm sure New Orleans would be very cool at Halloween.
You can't beat Fantesy Feat in Key West Florida
The Halloween Parade in New York City is always interesting (if sometimes a bit long). Where else can you see 6 foot tall dancing condoms? (for AIDS awareness) Not only can you watch it, but you can actually march in it if you want to (that's what makes it so long).

A day or so before or after Halloween, take a trip 2 hours north of New York City into the beautiful Catskill Mountains. Here you can see beautiful foliage and binge on fresh picked apples and cider.
New Orleans is a good choice. Big Halloween parties and the best street party anywhere, I think.
Here in New England, Salem MA is the place to be. They seem to celebrate for much of October with their festival, "Haunted Happenings".
Can't beat the party on Castro in San Francisco on Halloween!
Anyone know of any haunted sitings in houston, texas??
A "haunted Hotel would be fun or one of those murder mystery dinner theatres. There is one on St. Louis, sorry do not know the name.
I would think mnost cities have something to celebrate, street festivals, carnivals, haunted balls, etc..
Fantasy Fest in Key West is not over Halloween this year. It is the last full week in October.
Wine tasting in Napa by day, partying in San Francisco by night. A huge Halloween party in SF!
salem and spooky world which are both near Boston..
New Orleans is a blast for Halloween! A group of friends and I go every year. Great organized parties as well as great sights on Bourbon and in most of the clubs. Alot of the action takes place the weekend before Halloween when Halloween itself is not on a weekend. You can't go wrong with New Orleans in October. You will want to book very soon, though, as the rooms go very fast!

Good Luck and have fun!

Chazz

Be aware that the Halloween celebrations in the Castro in SF are very gay oriented. They're a lot of fun, but know what they'll be like----very crowded, very late and very outrageous!
Salem, MA is hopping for weeks leading up to Halloween. Pretty campy, but kind of fun - if you like "haunted houses," psychic readings, and new age shops. There is a costume ball near the end, too, but it requires reservations. Write to the Chamber of Commerce for a schedule.
Besides the schtick, the northshore has lots else to offer! Great seafood restaurants, antiquing, the Hammond Castle Museum in Essex, the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, and the Nathanial Hawthorne House of 7 Gables. Have fun planning your trip!
Try somewhere in New England. Some places do Sleepy Hollow reenactments. It's so fun. And they have hayrides too. Too scary for the tots so leave them at home.

This is a great question, I love Halloween!

But I have to put my 2 cents in about Halloween in SF at the Castro. We hated it, it was not a "gay-oriented" event at all, it was like we stepped into a high school or college fraternity party, couldn't see a thing cause we were smashed against people's back just trying to get off the train. All of us are in our 30s and somewhat party animals and just wanted to leave.

Apparently, the gay community has a parade and halloween event a few day before (last year it was the Saturday before) that my friends said was fabulous to go and see. Halloween night at the Castro was 100% amature night; we were very disappointed.

I'm glad I can say I experienced it, but will never do it again!

Hope you find the perfect destination, if you do, make sure to come back and tell us!!!!
