Halloween in Waikiki?
Hi,
We are going to Waikiki on Oct 29 for 4 days with our 2 kids aged 1.5 and 4. Does anyone know if they celebrate Halloween or if there are special celebrations for Halloween? Can the kids go trick or treating? Thanks. |
Anyone?

My understanding is that Halloween is quite a popular celebration in Waikiki. It's especially popular with gays, who are likely to dress in costume to celebrate.
However,I don't guarantee this information because it's been a number of years since I was there. Hopefully, someone who's been there recently will answer your question with a more up-to-date answer. |
Windward Community College has a nice event every year. It goes for several days. I don't remember if it goes as late as Oct 31.
You can try this link. Its from last year. Haven't seen any event listing yet for this year: http://www.hawaiitravelnewsletter.co.../halloween.htm |
As with most cities in America, Honolulu does indeed celebrate Halloween, but trick-or-treating is less popular--I think most kids go to Halloween functions. (At least, in most metro neighborhoods. Rural areas may still do trick-or-treating.) You may want to check with your concierge; sometimes the malls arrange for trick-or-treating. Otherwise, you can stay in Waikiki to watch the costumed adults!

Mel, doesn't alamoana stores give out candy on halloween to small kids? i know pearlridge used to eons ago. google isn't helping me...
|
They used to, but I don't know if they do that anymore now that they are so huge. I am pretty sure the regional malls have it, especially small ones like Market City. I'll check.
|
i work at the ala moana mall, and yes we give out candy. well, actually we gave out pencils, but i'd imagine most places give candy.

I would look to hotels or business or events, as already mentioned. I can't picture going door-to-door in Waikiki as you'd typically think as it's mostly apartment buildings people live in.
|
well there you go. thanks f12, with small kids, they'd probably last half of one level anyway.
have fun. |
Bishop Museum has a "treat street" on Halloween. 5-8pm on the great lawn. Various groups make little houses and the kids can trick or treat at each one. If you go a bit early, you could visit the childrens exhibit hall too. (not sure, may be volcanos still?).
Great gift shop in the museum for hawaiian souvenirs. |
I checked with Kahala Mall--they also have trick or treating for kids around the mall.
|
I checked with Pearlridge. They have trick-or-treating at the mall for Halloween.
