Halibut Fishing

Is Homer or Sewared better for halibut fishing? I have fished for Halibut from Homer and it was great. You no more than got your pole in the water and would catch one. Didn't know if Seward was just as good.

Thank Jamie

I,m told Sitka is the place for both Halibut and Salmon

Homer is known as the "Halibut Fishing Capitol of the World". What more can I say?

I've had luck out of both ports, but prefer Seward because the scenery is better, there's more of a chance to see wildlife, including whales, and the variety of fish you catch out of Seward is usually better -- i.e., ling and rockfish (called snapper in AK).

Plus, there's more of a chance of doing a halibut/salmon combo there.

Thanks for your reply repete. I'm going to book a fishing trip from Seward. I also remember when I did the Homer fishing trip there was a gentleman that stated he also liked Seward. Jamie

If you are going to Seward, contact the Fish House (907-224-3674) for charter reservations. They have a good reputation locally.

If you might possibly be interested in salmon, rather than halibut, the silvers are coming into Resurection Bay right now and fishing is hot.

I advise AGAINST going to Millers Landing. Had a terrible experience there this last Saturday
