Half Moon Bay (or Monterey) in April, is it worth it?

My husband and I be in SF for a business meeting in 2 weeks from now, and were considering spending 1-2 nights before hand (Apr 12-13) at the Ritz Carlton in Half Moon Bay.

We were concerned about the weather there... It's in the hi 40s - lo 60s now, and we've heard it's often foggy and rainy in April. Is it worth the $$, or is this a trip better taken later in the summer/autumn? (What about the Carmel or Monterey, any better there?)

The Ritz is a beautiful property, but it's true that Half Moon Bay is often very foggy. It's more foggy than San Francisco. That said, the weather around here is very unpredictable. Right now we have nothing but clear skies, but by Mon. it's supposed to rain again. Sept. and Oct. are our nicest months. Everyone I know has their anniversery in Sept.! Not a lot of June weddings.
You might want to go to the Napa Valley instead. If it's not raining the weather there should by nice and lots of wildflowers around.

The summer months from mid-June to late August are smack in the middle of the fog "season". This you can depend on, although there are sunny days in between the fog banks.

April is a transition from the rainy season. My guess is that you might hit some cloudy or rainy days, but you will not be socked in with consecutive days of either fog or rain.

At this moment, it is about 63 degrees and clear in downtown S.F. I'd like to get into a convertible and drive down to Half Moon Bay right now!

Thanks! Viamar - Napa sounds pretty nice as well. However, I can't drink now since we're trying to start a family. Are there other things to do up in Napa beside wine-related?

Shouldn't you be drinking now to prepare yourself for the coming dry spell

There is plenty to do without drinking.
Shopping, great restaurants or spa treatments. Calistoga seems to have the most day spas.
Dovima is right, you most likely won't have to contend w/ fog in April, but rain could be a problem.

The ice plant is beginning to bloom on the Monterey Peninsula and in Pacific Grove. Go for it. April is usually pretty nice there. We live in the area.
