Haleakala sunrise tour

Where is the best place to purchase the Haleakala sunrise tour tickets to get the best deal? My wife and I are staying at the Kea Lani and they just quoted me a price of $110/person. Can I do any better than that or is that a good price? Thanks.

Are you talking about a bike or a bus tour?

$110 per person !!! If that is the price you should do it yourself !! You swould probably be better off doing it yourself anyway !!

The best deal we found was with UpCountry Cycles and "Insane Wayne" (our little nickname for the guy who owns the company and drives you up to the top and has smoked too much weed over the years). It was a bit bizarre, but still fun.
You have to drive yourself to his shop at about 3:00 a.m., he takes you and the bikes to the top for the sunrise, then drives you down to the point where you can ride yourself. This is the only way to ride at your own pace. The other tours that start at the top require you to ride with the group, at the slowest person's pace. We rode down and then all the way to the winery (a fabulous ride, with just about a mile of a little uphill), stopping at a little shack for a great breakfast along the way. Then Insane Wayne picked us up at the winery. I'm sorry but I don't remember the cost, I just remember that it was the cheapest route.

There are online coupons for many of the companies if you book direct.

Also check http://www.bike-maui.com/index.html

In the current Entertainment Book, we found a coupon for a buy one get one at Cruiser Phil's

I definitley recommmend the guided tour as being much safer. People have gotten serious hurt or died going down the bikes.
