Halcyon Hotel San Francisco

Has anyone stayed here? I realize it is not very expensive. Clean? Safe? Any info appreciated. I think this used to be the Brady Acres Hotel.

After topping this, I did a little research. I think if you are staying in this area yourself, walking home at night could be scarey. This is just far enough away from Union Square to be in the heart of the Tenderloin - which does not always feel safe at night to me (kinda depends on what is going on in the Theater district). But, it is North of Geary, so it may not be that bad. I have not stayed here, but depending on the rate, I think you could do better. What sort of rate are you looking for?

The block may be OK, just off Geary on Jones. Area south of Geary is a drug selling area. Bus 38 runs along Geary 24 hrs a day. Try not to go south of Geary. I don't know anything about this hotel, but make sure before you make reservations it's not a residential hotel. <BR><BR>http://www.gayplaces2stay.com/california/halcyon.html<BR><BR>"Clientele" All Welcome" - what kind of hotel description is this? I'd continue searching for another place.

Thank you for the info. I think I will keep looking. Trying to find someplace for 4 nights at around $100 per night. But safety is important and would pay somewhat more for a safer place. Thank you.

Marie - I highly recommend The Royal Pacific Hotel; it's right on the edge of both Chinatown and North Beach (but just don't cross Columbus and head down that end of Broadway unless you want some tacky strip-kinda clubs), so I think the location can't be beat. We've stayed there 4 or 5 times and while the rooms are nothing spectacular, they are clean, and cheap! (We just reserved a double there for May with a rate of $99.) Oh, and did I mention location!?! :) Also, the management is fine and the hotel also has parking, which may be important for you.<BR><BR>Here's their website: http://royalpacific.citysearch.com/<BR><BR>Good luck with whatever you choose!
