Hair Salons

Does anyone know of any good, not through the roof expensive, hair salons in D.C.??? I need to get highlights, but I'm just a college student!! Please help! Thanks so much!

Sara, there are many funky hair salons that cater to the gay community on Connecticut Avenue around Dupont Circle. Always remember, never let anyone other than a gay man touch your hair. Ciao, John G

Oh John how I wish that were true!

I had "the PERFECT" color for years -- moved to another state, went to a gay man with the formula and he threw it aside for the color HE wanted to give me (eggplant -- not my color). It was ok, but not "perfect"!! I did like the the cut he gave me though... It took months for his color to grow out, had to change "the perfect" formula to accomodate the color he put on. It's finally back to "the perfect" color. It took 3 tries but I finally found someone who can follow the darn formula!! Hmm, he might be gay, but I don't know -- he's French and doesn't speak English (and I don't speak a lot of French). How can you tell if a French man is gay? ;-)

Chris, have you seen the French movie "The Closet" about a French man pretending to be gay to save his job? Hilarious! I saw it about a month ago so it may still be in theaters. If not, check it out on video.

Funny, but we had this huge debate 2 months ago about DC hair salons. Sara, tell us how much you wish to spend. I know a good place in Georgetown and in Alexandria ... but I need to know what's your ceiling. And what part of the city or metro area is convenient to you? Give us some input and we'll give you some suggestions. Look, I'm not gay, but I like hair a lot. I hear about it all the time. And will again today ... someone near and dear has another appointment this afternoon. God, let it go well, please. I need a great weekend. Hope I'm not disqualified due to my accidental status. LOL, and waiting to hear from you. Ciao

Thanks John!

Must have been that the guy in the US was still shopping around.
I don't agree myself with the gay male hairdresser theory, they've all ruined my hair so I will only go to women now. I have my theories, also, on that one. However, I do know just the place for you, independently run by some younger stylists around Dupont/Adams Morgan, refugees from when a great cheap salon (Harlow's) near Dupont Circle closed down due to real estate developers. It's called Subairi Hair Salon at 1635B R St NW 202-232-2974 (not in phone book, I don't think). Everybody there is pretty good that I've seen and it's very reasonable.

I'd follow my gay male hairstylist anywhere for a cut and color!!

OK -- John DID have a reply above my 2nd post. Apparently deleted (or just "mis-placed").

Don't want anyone to think I was TOO insane and responding to a post that wasn't there -- it was when I responded!

Leone, hope it went well for you. ;-)

Arabella -- is that the movie with Gerard Depardeau (?sp)
