Gwyneth Does Nashville

Gwyneth Paltrow was here filming a movie (with Tim McGraw) for a few months, and has blogged about her favorite places around town. It's actually a really nice list of places and activities I either know are great or have heard great things about, so I figured I'd post it for people looking for ideas of what to do/eat/buy in Nashville.

I just can't imagine she's been to Prince's Hot Chicken Shack. But I guess anything's possible. :)

Pretty neat. Thanks for posting. I don't get into the "city" very often and never have star sightings. My mom will see people all the time. Keith and Nicole hang out at Davis Kidd with their daughter. Don't tell anyone.

They also eat at Peter's Sushi. Sssshhh.

1) I thought she was a vegetarian or vegan - she eats fried chicken? I find that hard to believe
2) How come no one took her to Pancake Pantry near the Vanderbilt Univ campus? Perhaps she wasn't willing to stand in line out the door for an hour? Seems like I would be eating breakfast there every day if I lived in Nashville.

aliska - I thought so too, but apparently not (or not anymore):

I noticed the Pantry's absence too. Maybe she wanted to focus on lesser-known places? The Bluebird only got a "Reese said this place is good." Got me. (The lines aren't bad on weekdays. Promise. :) )

Article today about how Gwyneth's blogs have spiked business (unsurprisingly). Good to hear she's genuinely nice!

Thanks for this post! Will be back there soon! Nashville is a great town! Its been getting lots of time from the press lately, too.

Cool! Thanks for the links. And perfect timing as i'll be there for a concert, bon jovi baby! Where would you suggest staying downtown? Its such a walkable city and would like to walk to the Sommet Center if possible.

The Sommet Center has changed to the Bridgestone Arena.

ok, well someone needs to tell the bonjovi webmaster,

So where would be a good place for a group to stay?

There are plenty of hotels downtown close by this arena. Unless you prefer to stay up near the Grand Ole Opry complex, I'd find someplace close by Broadway.

jent103 Mar 28th, 2010 11:26 AM

Ha. Yes, our arena has changed names once again (this is at least the fourth name in the last five years). ellen_griswold, since I live here I haven't stayed in any of the downtown hotels, but there are several to check out. There's a Hilton and a Hampton Inn on the south side of Broadway, very close to the arena. There are some other chain hotels on the north side as well. If your budget allows, the Hermitage is really nice.

If for some reason you strike out on the downtown hotels, you could also look in the West End/Vandy area. It's a very short drive or cab ride downtown, and has lots of chain hotels.

Personally, I think Pancake Pantry is highly over rated. There are many nice places to eat in Nashville but none I'd wait on line for.

jent103 Mar 28th, 2010 05:08 PM

Hey Sharon. ;)

The Pantry is super yummy (mmm, sugar & spice), but there are lots of other good breakfast-y places in town - Fido down the street, for one. If you're here and craving pancakes, I like the Pfunky Griddle in Berry Hill - my favorite French toast. Marche in East Nashville has great brunch too.
